The Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme (SEP) aims to support teachers in the effective use of practical work and active approaches to teaching and learning. SEP produces innovative resource materials and offer our own programme of CPD support, provided by our team of Professional Development Leads.
CPD support from SEP
Our professional development programme supports teachers and technicians involved in 11-19 education who wish to develop their subject knowledge and practical expertise.
Our support is:
sponsored by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and is therefore free to teachers
bespoke - starting from where you and your science team are, and working with you to design an appropriate support programme to meet your curriculum needs
on-going - we can arrange follow on support, so it’s not just a one-off training session, but part of a planned interaction.
About LSS
One of our flagship programmes, supporting professional development of science teachers since its pilot in 2004. LSS has been established in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Nuffield Curriculum Centre.
Upcoming
LSS training
Over the coming months there will be a range of formal LSS training courses and cluster sessions around the country. Our list is arranged by region, to make it easy to find your nearest events.
SEP collaborate with a number of other organisations associated with science education. Here are some of the projects we are involved in ...
Effective Practical Approaches in Physics and Chemistry
SEP have worked together with the National Network of Science Learning Centres to plan a number of courses involving Effective Practical Approaches in Physics and Chemistry.
Science Additional Specialism Programme (SASP) SASP is a TDA-funded professional development programme which aims to enable existing science teachers without a physics or chemistry specialism to teach these subjects more effectively. Gatsby Technical Educational Projects (GTEP) supported the IoP and RSC to provide participants with additional support during the SASP pilot.
Getting Practical – Improving Practical Work in Science Programme Getting Practical is a programme of professional development funded by the DCSF. It is aimed at all those who teach or assist with the teaching of practical science at primary, secondary and further education levels. SEP is one of the contributing partners to the Getting Practical programme.
