SEP
supports physics summer schools
SEP’s equipment and resources
formed a major part of a recent residential course to
boost physics subject knowledge. Charterhouse school
worked in partnership with SEP, the Institute of Physics
(IoP) and Surrey University to produce a free week long
course from 9-13 July. The course attracted 27 delegates
from 5 teacher training institutions: most of the participants
are beginning ITT this autumn, but some were already
experienced teachers.
There were talks from university lecturers and physics
teachers, and practical work covered the basics of KS3
and 4 physics using both SEP and IoP teaching resources.
Delegates also had the opportunity to meet recent NQTs
during the evening sessions. The final day focused on
project work, with team presentations to the whole group.
Following excellent feedback from participants, the
course will run again next year, with an additional
week dedicated to the needs of NQTs or experienced teachers
who want to develop their physics teaching. The present
partnership will also be extended to offer more ongoing
support as the ITT students enter their first year in
post.
