Jean Scrase
Jean has the national responsibility for the work of the SEP Professional Development team which aims to support whole science departments with practical work and skills development. She has 20 years experience of science education, in particular curriculum development, resource production and the development of associated training.
Following a brief period of science research in industry, Jean trained to teach in further education, where she taught for twelve years. During this period she was seconded to the Nuffield Science in Practice team where she supported centres set up the then new GNVQ Science qualification.

| In 2000, Jean co-founded 4science. The company developed resource materials to support applied science qualifications, and carried out project work for a number of science organisations including the RSC, IoP and ASE. |

After leaving 4science Jean became the Head of Learning and Development for Salisbury Healthcare Trust, and then went free-lance before joining the Nuffield Foundation Curriculum programme in January 2008, part-time, with responsibility for the continuing professional development of teachers associated with Nuffield Curriculum projects. Also, in January 2008, Jean took on her current part-time role within the Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme.

Gerry Blake
Gerry Blake is an SEP Professional Development Lead with a Physics specialism. He works with teachers and technicians in the East of England region.
After 20 years experience as a Head of Science, Gerry decided to concentrate on writing. He developed on-line Physics resources and helped present the Institute of Physics ‘Advancing Physics Revision Roadshow’. In addition to his role as a member of the SEP Professional Development team, Gerry is an IoP Physics Teaching and Learning Coach. In both roles he actively supports, encourages and enthuses the next generation of science teachers. |

Anne Martyn
Anne Martyn is an SEP Professional Development Lead with a Materials Science specialism. She works with teachers and technicians in the North West , North East and West Midlands regions.
Anne brings a wealth of experience to the SEP team with her combined teaching experience and background in Industrial research and development, manufacturing and technical expertise.
Following a period in Industry, Anne retrained as a science teacher. She then became an education coordinator for the Institute for Materials, Minerals and Mining before taking up her current role within the SEP Professional Development team. Anne is passionate about promoting engaging practical work and enhancing the skills base for students. |

Helen Pollard
Helen Pollard is an SEP Professional Development Lead with a Physics specialism. She works with teachers in the East Midlands region. Helen has physics and science teaching experience which spans over thirty years. During the last four years Helen has been actively supporting teachers outside her own school via the Institute of Physics teacher network. This year, Helen has made the move to supporting other teachers full-time by joining the SEP Professional Development team. Here she enjoys demonstrating, and discussing some of the new innovations developed for lab work throughout the secondary age group.

Kay Stephenson
Kay Stephenson is an SEP Professional Development Lead with a Chemistry specialism and works with teachers in the East of England region.
Having started her career as an Research and Development chemist, Kay took up teaching in the late '80's. Kay worked in a variety of schools in the North East and East Anglia, as a classroom teacher, Head of Science and in Senior Management.
In 2005, Kay joined the Royal Society of Chemistry as the Assistant Education Manager and then worked for CLEAPSS as their Senior Adviser. Throughout her career Kay has been involved in curriculum and resource development and the design and delivery of CPD programmes. Kay is also still involved (after 17 years) in A-level examining! |
