Modelling climate change
With the extensive coverage of climate change issues in the media and the very real threat to the Earth’s future, it is important to teach students about the different factors responsible for the change in our climate. Climate scientists consider each of these factors to understand the climate and why it changes. They do not, however, have a ‘climate in a test tube’ to try out their ideas, so they create computer models that they use to carry out their ‘experiments’. This booklet provides an introduction to the way in which the climate can be modelled and the science behind the models. The activities include practical experiments, simple examples of climate modelling, and analysis of observed data. |
